Programme Mudanças com Arte | Changes with Art [T.N.] |
Tradução de Ana Pessoa Pinharanda How did it start?![]() Who was it for? This programme was developed primarily in schools. It aimed to prevent gender violence and promote Human Rights within young adults of colleges and secondary schools. Knowing that these young adults will only be fully embedded in the programme with the various educational bodies working together, this programme was also about working with parents, carers, teachers and all the school staff bodies through a series of awareness workshops. How did it work?UMAR implemented a systematic programme with young adults. These worked within their classes exploring and developing different projects that viewed to promote prevention of violent behaviour. It is important to notice that the funding for this programme was only in place since November of 2008 and until December 2010. However, the programme itself has been run by UMAR in several schools for approximately seven years. The programme uses a qualitative methodology approach and participants have a real input. Personal and collective life experiences are developed. This is possible due to a dynamic approach that creates awareness and impels young adults to change their attitude and enhance their self-esteem. Commitment and responsibility are also essential characteristics developed during the programme. These characteristics are vital for the development of a healthy and informed discussion about violence and the construction of a culture where peace is the centre piece. We aim to help a group of inquisitive and reflective youngsters to discover the tools that will allow them to know how to act in different circumstances, within their communities, and that are related to the key case themes involving not only their communities but also their family. The workshops should be divided in three stages:
1) Moment of the organiser: remembering the highlights from the previous session (first five minutes) and explaining the contents to be delivered and discussed in the session due to take place; The programme will be implemented in accordance with the school established protocol. It will take place during the Formação Cívica/Character Education [T.N.] class, every fortnight, with the presence of the Head of Class. We aim to deliver 15 workshops during each school year and the programme will be delivered during two consecutive years to the same class. What are the goals?Engaging with young adults through the project so that we are able to:- Aware the youngsters about mutual respect for difference and Equality of Opportunities. Empowerment of the self as a subject and as an agent of his or hers own choice and ideas; - Raise awareness about the issues debated in the workshops; - Allow the young adults to feel comfortable when refusing gender violence and promoting new behaviours; - Develop healthy values and attitudes to allow the construction of affectionate relations and friendships based on peace, self-respect and mutual consent. What are the issues debated? The goals previously mentioned will be achieved during the workshops delivered by the technical teams responsible for the programme. The following themes will be explored:- Human Rights; - Children Rights; - Woman Rights; - Gender (In)Equality; - Causes and effects of violence in society (home, road, school, playground, bar, stadiums); - Domestic violence; - Violence while dating; - Bullying; - Sexuality; - Development of personal and social skills. The final seminarDuring the sessions it will also be asked the students to build a final product with an artistic ground (i.e. play, dance, music...). These final products will be intimately related to the themes developed during the workshops. They will be delivered to all students that were part of the programme. This will take place during a Final Seminar, in Porto County, between May and June of each academic year, in a venue to be announced.ContactsUMAR - Projecto Mudanças com ArteRua da Cruz, número 13, 4200-247 Porto e-mail: Este endereço de e-mail está protegido de spam bots, pelo que necessita do Javascript activado para o visualizar Tel: 220938046 Mobile: 962912618 Technical staffPatrícia Maria Ribeiro – Project coordinator, PsychologistAna Gomes – Psychologist Ana Pinto – Educational studies specialist Critina Pereira – Social Educator Programme Changes with Art – academic year 2009/2010The work developed during the academic year of 2008/2009 through the Programme Changes with Art, can be summarised as it follows:Establishment of protocols with schools:
